Dr. Shen is a postdoctoral fellow at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior in the EMPWR Program and Family Development Program. Dr. Shen earned their Ph.D. in Clinical Psychological Science from Stony Brook University and completed a predoctoral internship in the General Child Track at UCLA. Their work centers on providing evidence-based, trauma-informed services for individuals and families, with a focus on providing care for minoritized populations and supporting families navigating complex medical challenges. Dr. Shen has trained across a variety of interdisciplinary settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and consultation-liaison programs at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Stony Brook Medicine, and UCLA. They deliver care using a tailored approach integrating evidence-based treatments (e.g., DBT, TF-CBT, PCIT) to improve mental health outcomes and cultivate resilience among youth and families. Their research examines health disparities, interventions targeting the impact of minority stress, and implications for clinician education and program development. As a fellow, Dr. Shen provides evidence-based care to LGBTQ+ youth, adults, and families, as well as families facing medical complexities and perinatal challenges within and beyond the hospital setting.
